Ryan J. Cloe, 21, of Carthage, Remembered After Chaumont Bay Boating Incident on May 15, 2026
Ryan J. Cloe, 21, of Carthage, New York, passed away on Chaumont Bay near the village of Chaumont in Jefferson County on May 15, 2026.
Officials reported that Ryan went overboard from a small aluminum boat at about 2:50 p.m. while out on the water alone and without a life jacket.
New York State Police from SP Watertown responded after a report of a person in the water, with support from Chaumont Fire Department, Cape Vincent Ambulance, Jefferson County STAR Team, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, City of Watertown Fire Department, Henderson Fire Department fire boat, and LifeNet helicopter.
The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team later located Ryan, and officials confirmed the passing at the scene.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances and ask anyone who saw activity on Chaumont Bay that afternoon to call 315-366-6000 and reference case NY2600619751.
Memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
