Walter Birdsong, 62, And Amanda Birdsong, 43, Remembered After Fatal Family Land Dispute In Rankin County, Mississippi

Walter Birdsong, 62, and Amanda Birdsong, 43, died Friday afternoon, May 8, 2026, after a family land dispute on Monterey Road in Rankin County, Mississippi.

Deputies responded shortly before 4 p.m. to emergency calls from a property in the 1400 block and found Walter and Amanda with fatal injuries.

Authorities also found 56-year-old Kurt Birdsong deceased after the initial response, and officials described that death as apparently self-inflicted.

Investigators believe a long-running disagreement over land ownership within the family led to the tragic event, while the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office continues to speak with witnesses and gather evidence.
