Anderson Teixeira Goncalves, 20, Remembered After Canoe Capsized During June 11 Outing At Ames Pond In Stoughton

Anderson Teixeira Goncalves, a 20-year-old from Taunton, died after a canoe capsized during a Thursday outing with friends at Ames Pond near Highland Street in Stoughton.

Friends called for help around 2:30 p.m. after the canoe overturned and Anderson did not resurface.

Stoughton police officers and firefighters reached the pond first and began an urgent search with support from nearby communities and the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team.

Divers found Anderson after about 90 minutes, and the Canton Fire Department brought Anderson to a local hospital, where medical staff pronounced Anderson dead.

Family, friends, and the Taunton community now mourn a young life lost during what began as a summer afternoon on the water.

Authorities continue to review what happened, and officials have reminded boaters to wear life jackets during water activities.
