Chloe Christina Smith, 25, Remembered After Riding Accident in Massachusetts as Family and Equestrian Community Mourn a Life Built Around Horses

Chloe Christina Smith, a 25-year-old horse trainer and farm owner from Swampscott, Massachusetts, died Friday evening after a riding accident with friends.

Family members said Smith was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and died about seven hours later despite medical care.

On June 8, 2026, relatives, friends, and the Massachusetts equestrian community remembered Smith as independent, compassionate, ambitious, and devoted to horses and loved ones.

In April, Smith purchased a working horse farm in Berlin, Massachusetts, opened a barn seven weeks before the accident, and moved into the farmhouse one week before the incident.

Family members said Smith dreamed of building a lasting home and gathering place on the property while boarding horses and training riders.

Smith’s parents, Jim Smith and Abbe Smith, and siblings Andrew Smith, Tristan Smith, and Hayley Gray shared memories of Smith’s dedication, generosity, and steady support for family.

Memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
