Prestonsburg Community Mourns Damon Adams, 22, After Friday Evening Drowning At Dewey Lake In Jenny Wiley State Resort Park
Damon Adams, 22, died Friday evening, May 29, 2026, after drowning at Dewey Lake in Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.
Officials said emergency responders received a call at approximately 7:22 p.m. after a 911 caller saw Adams go underwater while swimming and not resurface.
Crews from multiple agencies responded, including Prestonsburg Fire Department, Prestonsburg Police Department, Floyd County Rescue Squad, Floyd County Emergency Management, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Authorities temporarily closed Lake Road, Route 302, between the old swimming pool area and Arrowhead Point so responders could reach the water safely.
Search teams located Adams at approximately 8:48 p.m. in the main channel of Dewey Lake, and officials pronounced Adams deceased at the scene.
Family, friends, and neighbors in Prestonsburg are mourning the sudden loss and offering support to loved ones.
