Gordon Fields, 47, Of Marietta Remembered After Fatal Interstate 75 South Collision Near North Marietta Parkway On May 22, 2026
Gordon Fields, 47, of Marietta, Georgia, lost their life early Friday, May 22, 2026, after a roadway collision on Interstate 75 South near North Marietta Parkway in Cobb County.
Authorities said the incident happened just before 1 a.m. after traffic had backed up for hours from an earlier roadway event that closed all southbound lanes.
Investigators said a stopped tractor-trailer driven by 29-year-old Mayki Marcelin of Davenport, Florida, remained in the lane as traffic began moving again.
A second tractor-trailer driven by 35-year-old Daniel Granados of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, grazed the stopped truck while trying to avoid a direct impact.
Moments later, Fields approached in a white Volkswagen and struck the rear of the stopped tractor-trailer.
Emergency crews reached the scene, and officials pronounced Fields deceased on the interstate.
Both tractor-trailer drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, while officials continued reviewing speed, visibility, distraction, and roadway conditions.
Memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
