Iredell Collins, 84, Remembered After Morning Swim Emergency At Carl Redus Jr. Aquatic Center In Pine Bluff
Iredell Collins, 84, of Fordyce, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2026, after a morning visit to the Carl Redus Jr. Aquatic Center in Pine Bluff.
Iredell arrived for a peaceful swim and used a walker, which remained near the wall as they entered the pool area.
A lifeguard saw Iredell leave the pool safely, then checked the water again moments later and found them unresponsive.
Bystanders helped bring Iredell from the water, and responders received the call just after 9:15 AM.
Firefighters and medical teams continued care before an ambulance took Iredell to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where doctors pronounced them deceased at 9:55 AM.
Local officials confirmed drowning as the cause of death and sent the remains for a standard autopsy.
Mayor Vivian Flowers offered condolences, and the city extended the pool closure through Monday while staff reviewed safety protocols.
Family members will announce memorial, obituary, and funeral service details at a later time.
