Fernley, Nevada Community Mourns Richard Allen Hightower After June 1, 2026 Incident
Richard Allen Hightower, a 45-year-old Fernley, Nevada resident, died on June 1, 2026, after emergency calls reported gunfire in the area.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies reached the scene quickly and found Hightower with critical injuries, but responders pronounced Hightower dead at the scene.
Authorities identified Jeremy Barrett, 40, and James Edward Karol, 44, as suspects, and both remain held without bail at the Lyon County Jail.
Patrol deputies, investigators, K9 teams, SWAT, major crimes personnel, emergency services, and partner agencies assisted during the response and follow-up work.
